I've been fishing Deckers the month of December and it has been really good. Short line high sticking is the way to fish Deckers in the winter. Precise presentation will often sway these picky trout into a subtle bite of your fly. These subtle bites make it necessary to use the smallest indicator you feel comfortable with. As long as you are picking up some algae every other cast or so, you know you have the correct amount of weight on.
Some flies that have been working for me are: Brassies, RSII's, BWO patterns and eggs. Keep your nymphs/emergers small, like size 20 and smaller. Strictly 5 and 6x. Keep this tips up and guides ice free!
